Abstract:

The working environment and structure of University libraries in New Zealand and Australia, though similar, are different. I am going to talk about my experience of transitioning from one sister country to another in the library profession and explain to you what I have found, thus far. This will include differences and similarities in hierarchies, job titles and names, employment conditions, professional association accreditation rules, professional associations, technologies used in-house, and the list goes on.

Transitioning from one country to another is always tough, but from Australia to NZ, it isn't actually that bad. Australia is just like a big back yard for us New Zealanders. Likewise, you might like to think that NZ is a council verge for you perhaps.

In talking about the transition experience, I will also pose some food for thought with the issues that I have found working in an academic library in Australia, and how they differ from issues in NZ. (157 words)
